2016 Session a Success for the KBA

2016 Session Report

The Kansas Beverage Association, working with the lobbying team, had a very successful 2016 Legislative Session. Withthe focus of the session for the Legislature and Governor on addressing the revenue shortfall projections. Although there were many bills proposing raising taxes, since it is an election year and just last year the legislature raised taxes (raised sales and tobacco taxes in 2015) there was little appetite for tax increases. Removing or lowering the Sales Tax on Food was a popular idea and although brought up for discussion in numerous bills, it is cost prohibitive. The legislature DID pass an Anti-Bloomberg bill, this pre-empts local government from nutrition labeling requirements.

Hein Governmental Consulting, LLC lobbied / monitored 79 bills on behalf of the Kansas Beverage Association.
